Ce n’est pas la première fois que cela se produit. Néanmoins, il est de bon ton de mettre en lumière ces actions qui honorent nos athlètes. En début d’année, en Australie, plusieurs interventions ont été effectuées par des sauveteurs, présents sur la plage pour prendre part à une compétition. Ainsi le 26 janvier (jour de fête nationale) Harriet Brown et Elise Daudignon ont été mises à contribution à Maroochydore.
« Nous étions en train de récupérer après une série oceanwoman du Summer of Surf quand j’ai entendu un appel à l’aide. Trois personnes étaient en difficulté, à contre-courant. Cela nous a pris du temps. Nous avons fini par les ramener sur le rivage, aidées par deux jeunes munis de bouée tube » témoigne Élise.
Nous souhaitions mettre à l’honneur dans ce numéro l’action de Laurent Morel et de son équipe sur l’île de la Réunion. Loin de tout et forts d’une détermination à toute épreuve, ils développent leur école de sauvetage. J’en veux pour preuve l’autorisation de retourner dans les vagues qu’ils ont obtenu après des mois de démarche ! Et ce dans un contexte unique au monde, interdisant l’accès à l’océan pour cause de requins.
Je tenais enfin à remercier les passionnés, tels Rémy Coupy, Maël Tissier ou Philippe Etcheverry, qui jouent pour nous les reporters aux confins du monde.

At the beginning of the year, in Australia, several interventions were carried out by surf lifesavers, present on the beach to take part in a competition. On January 26 (national holiday), Harriet Brown and Elise Daudignon were called in to help at Maroochydore.
« We were recovering after a heat of the Summer of Surf oceanwoman when I heard a call for help. Three people were in trouble, being dragged out by the current. It took us a while. In the end, we got them back to shore safely, helped by two youths with rescue tubes,» Élise explained.
In this issue, we’d like to highlight the work of Laurent Morel and his team on Reunion Island. Far away from it all, and with a steely determination to succeed, they are developing their lifesaving club. Just to prove it they’ve received authorization to return to the waves which they obtained after months of lobbying! And all this in a context that is unique in the world, where access to the ocean is forbidden because of sharks.
